If that doesn't pan out...

I wish I could say that I've done something totally awesome and creative today... But sadly I have not. I DID make some delicious chocolate chip pancakes. I am starting to think that if this teaching gig doesn't pan out, I can always open my own diner.

Here is something that has made me happy-- for my last hallway bulletin board I had my kiddos make these top-down view snowmen. Each came out unique and had a personality. I am sadly going to change out my bulletin board for something new-- but I wanted to share some of the pics with you!

I also began making some file folder games for my classroom. Here's the deal though, you have to be one tough cookie if you want to make file folder games. You have to first find the game, download it, print it, cut out the pieces, glue into position, etc. THEN-- if you want it to last for a long time you need to laminate it. Which leads to more cutting and putting together. The end result it pleasing. You feel good for all that hard work (and you just pray that the kids can appreciate it too).

And here is an example of the excitement that awaits me!

I guess I did get a little bit creative-- I made up my own file folder game. I call it "Synonym Go Fish" (say that one10x fast!).

I can't get the image to upload very well... but you can click here if you'd like to see more.

And last, but certainly not least, I DID crochet myself something a few weekends ago. It's a flower pot-- because I am a known plant killer (if you don't believe me check out some of my older posts). But these flowers will NEVER die. And for that I am eternally grateful!

If you would like the pattern for this-- it's right here and really easy to follow!

More to come!

Trash Talk Tuesday (the return)

Happy Valentine's Day! Here's a glimpse of the beautiful roses my boyfriend sent me. They are wonderful and I am one lucky lady! (Sorry, needed to brag a little)

I love the red vase!
They came with sparkles!

I feel like on Valentine's Day you should be honest with those you love. Not that you shouldn't be honest on any other day... Wow, this sounding more and more awkward.

Anyway, I haven't done a trash talk Tuesday in quite some time. So in honor of my 2nd snow day from school, Valentine's Day, and a halfway decent Tuesday, here is a new one!

Whitney Houston Dies

Ok, don't get me wrong, sure it was a little sad that Whitney Houston died at a relatively young age. And, I'm guessing, it happened pretty unexpectedly. But at the same time, does EVERY news station have to be broadcasting it? And do they have to keep talking about it for days and DAYS? When our media can't even focus on the soldiers we lose daily in war, but they CAN focus on one pop singer for endless days-- I have to wonder what is wrong with our focus? We have turned our artists into idols and gods. Yes, she died. Yes, we can pay homage. But after that I think it's time to move on with our lives.

Chris Brown at the Grammys

I'm not sure what exactly I was watching on Sunday night, but I totally missed out on the Grammys. I DID turn it to the station once to catch Chris Brown winning a Grammy. I said to myself "huh." and changed the channel. I think I was watching old reruns of "Kitchen Nightmares" starring chef Gorden Ramsey. Even that seemed more interesting than the music awards. Anyway, all of the hullabaloo surrounding Chris is that he won awards and was allowed to perform at the show. Even though he got into big trouble for assaulting his former girlfriend (and pop singer), Rhianna in 2009. Scandalous.

Adele Wins Big
Bravo to Adele. In case you haven't heard her sing-- you really should look her up on iTunes. She managed to nab 6 Grammys-- including ones like "best song of the year", "album of the year", and "record of the year". (what is the difference between a record and an album?!?) I'm just glad that someone who can actually sing and write and HAS talent could win big. I tip my hat to this lady... well, I would if I were wearing one, that is.

PS-Remember the year Justin Bieber was nominated for Best New Artist? I felt mortified for our country...

Transforming... Again
Apparently they are going to make a 4th Transformers... But the rumor is there will be no Shia LaBeouf. That being said, all I have to say is-- PASS. I do agree with a lot of people, these were once cartoons for kiddos. Why do all the robots have to use such bad language? Why the PG-13 ratings? What happened to family movies?

Movie Reviews

I watched this movie thinking it would be another "Liam Neeson kicks some butt and makes everyone rue the day they crossed him" kind of film. NOT. AT. ALL. It was more of a story focusing on the human will to live. Overall I can't tell you what happens... But it was very depressing. And, safe to say, definitely a movie meant for guys.

I rented this one from the Redbox. It was definitely worth $1. It's a true story-- a little comedy mixed in, but mostly drama. I found some of the flashbacks and flashforwards hard to follow... but I think that's a personal problem. If you love baseball or sports you'll most likely enjoy it.

If you know me at all, you'll know I can't resist "scary" movies or shark themed movies. (Don't worry, I didn't spend any money on this one). Over-cliched, bad acting, horrible graphics... This movie has it all! That all being said, I kind wish I had that hour and a half back...

I love Steve Carell, so I decided to give this chick flick a chance. Overall I think it had a really good message, it made me laugh, and the acting was GOOD. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and to anyone who enjoys chick flicks. (though be warned, it isn't as light-hearted and perfect as most chick flicks end up being-- which is why I liked it)

This one is mostly for Heather. First of all, I'm sorry I watched it. I LOVE the original Footloose. The one with Kevin Bacon. And I was super bored today, which is why I found myself wondering about the new version. Let me cut to the chase. Here is what I picked up on:
  • They use EXACT lines from the original (a LOT)
  • They use the same outfits as the original (like what they wear to the final dance, etc)
  • They used a lot of the same songs as the original (sometimes the same exact song, and some were the same song with new rhythms)
  • They tried to make it modern by adding in some random rap music and break dancing
  • The acting was pretty cheesy
  • The dancing wasn't all that impressive
Overall I felt like they were merely making a horrible copy of the original. If they were going to remake it, why didn't they try to change it more? That's what I don't understand. Why should they redo the original when there is NOTHING wrong with it? In the future, if I want to watch Footloose I will always go for the original instead of this cheap imposter. For shame.
